90 Min Design Challenge
Concept / 2018
I designed a focused MVP in a 90-minute design challenge, reimagining the active-play experience with an integrated EQ that gives audiophiles greater control without disrupting playback.
The End-To-End Process
START > 1. secondary research 2. sketching & ideation 3. hi-fi Sketch design 4. peer to peer design critique
Incorporating elements from the Material Design Guidelines.

My Role
To develop a music player concept, conduct research, and design an active play screen.
Problem Space
Most music player apps do not have an integrated EQ.
Constraints
The design had to be produced in a short window of time.
Inability to conduct primary research in the form of interviews to find out more about user preferences.
Challenges
Having to source icons on the fly, while aiming to keep the same weight and feel throughout.
Working to adhere to the Material Design Guidelines.
Assumptions
Audiophiles and music lovers seek to enhance their listening experience, and the most convenient way to do this is through the integration of an EQ within a native music player.
Key Research Insights
Secondary research was conducted in a 15 minute period. Primary research has yet to be conducted.
Most quality EQs had to be downloaded as separate apps.
In order to access the EQ on a mobile device, either the phone settings had to be opened, or a secondary app accessed.
Audiophiles are generally frustrated that they have to go through so many steps to adjust their sound setting while listening to music.
HMW
How might we enhance a user's listening experience, allowing them to easily control acoustic function while they are listening to music?
Design Goal
To add an easily accessible, integrated EQ into a native music player.
Design Solution
The addition of a EQ into the tab bar.
Key User Testing Insights
TBD
Next Steps
Developing a user flow incorporating login screens that includes an expanded view of the EQ itself.
Further exploration and implementation of design patterns, and the introduction of additional elements from the Material Design Guidelines.
Refinement of app elements through user testing.
